The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show ran from November19, 1959 until June27, 1964 on ABC and NBC. Produced by Jay Ward Productions, the series is a variety show featuring the exploits of Bullwinkle and Rocky. In most of their exploits, they face Russian-like spies Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale. Supporting features include Dudley Do-Right, Peabody's Improbable History, and more. Rocky & Bullwinkle is noted for its witty writing. Puns, sarcasm, and self-referential comedy appealed to adults and children. It was also one of the first cartoons to outsource animation to Gamma Productions, a Mexican studio engaged by Total Television. So the art is jagged and rough, and the animation is restricted even by TV animation standards. Critics have called the series a well-written radio show with images.
