It was based on the Brewster-Douglass projects in Detroit, where Diana Ross and Lily Tomlin used to live. Eddie Murphy was the star of the show, which was made by Imagine Entertainment, run by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, The Murphy Company and Will Vinton Studios, Touchstone Television, and Warner Bros. Television. The original run of the show started on Fox on January 10, 1999, right after a divisional conference football playoff game. Two days later, the second episode came on at its usual time on Tuesday night, after King of the Hill.
