The League of Gentlemen is a British comedy television series that first aired in 1999 on BBC Two. The show takes place in Royston Vasey, a fictional Northern English town based on Bacup, Lancashire. It follows the lives of dozens of strange townfolk, the majority of whom are played by three of the show's four creators, Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, and Reece Shearsmith, who founded the League of Gentlemen comedy team in 1995 with Jeremy Dyson. From 1999 to2002, the series broadcast for three seasons before being adapted into a film in 2005. To commemorate the group's 20th anniversary, a three-part comeback mini-series was aired in December 2017.
