The Joe Schmo Show was conceived by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. In the U.S., Spike airs the series. The show's premise is that a target person or persons are led to believe that they are contestants on a reality TV show; in reality, all of the other participants –including the host –are actors, and their actions and the outcome of the purported show are scripted to elicit comedic reactions from the targets. The Joe Schmo Show aired in 2003 and Joe Schmo 2 in 2004. First season's hoax was a reality competition show, while second was a Bachelor-like relationship series. On December10,2012, Spike renewed The Joe Schmo Show for a third season, which premiered on January8, 2013. Voice actor Ralph Garman has hosted all three Joe Schmo seasons.
