Jerry Yan, Leon Dai, Janine Chang, Zhang Guozhu, Ng Man Tat, and Tang Zhiping star in the 2006 Taiwanese drama The Hospital. Cài Yuè Xun directed and produced the film under the banner of Yang Ming International Production. There are thirty nine 60-minute episodes in the series and it ran from August 15 to October 6, 2006, on free-to-air China Television (CTV) every weekday at 20:00. Hou Wenyong, a Taiwanese author, wrote the 2000 Chinese novel The Hospital, which is the inspiration for the film. It highlights Taiwan's national university-affiliated hospital's power struggle, as well as the community's interpersonal ties. Hou's novel is frequently likened to Toyoko Yamasaki's Japanese novel Shiroi Kyoto because of its title and setting. There have been Asian television programs based on both of these novels and short stories. The drama was nominated for eight Golden Bell Honors in 2007, including Best Directing for a Television Series and Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series, and took home two of those awards.
