RJ Berger, an unpopular sophomore at Ohio's fictional Pinkerton High School with an abnormally enormous penis, is the show's central character. Miles Jenner, whose desire for fame causes him to battle with Berger, and Lily Miran, a goth lady who has had a crush on Berger for numerous years, are Berger's two best pals. Jenny Swanson, a cheerleader who is dating popular athlete and bully Max Owens, is Berger's love interest. The show is billed as a coming-of-age drama, with Katzenberg and Grahame-Smith comparing it to The Wonder Years and Superbad. The first season of 12 episodes began on June6, 2010 and ended on August23, 2010. The Hard Times of RJ Berger was renewed for a second season by MTV, which started on March24,2011, and ended on May30,2011, although the show was terminated in August of that year.
