With Stef's biological son from a previous marriage, Brandon, and their adopted twins Mariana and Jesus, Stef Foster, a committed police officer, and her girlfriend Lena Adams, a school vice principal, have established a close-knit, loving family. When Lena meets Callie, a tough adolescent with a history of abuse who has spent her life in and out of foster homes, their lives are upended in unforeseen ways. Callie and her brother, Jude, are welcomed into Lena and Stef's home, assuming it will just be for a few weeks until they can find a more permanent home. But life has other plans for the Fosters.
