The BBC produced the British science fiction television series Survivors. It recounts the life of a group of individuals who survived an unknown, severe strain of influenza that wiped out the majority of the human population. According to the makers, the series is not a reproduction of Terry Nation's 1970s BBC television series Survivors, but is loosely based on Nation's novel of the same name, which he wrote after the first series of the 1970s series. The new series was developed in two seasons. The first season aired on BBC One and BBC HD from November to December 2008, while the second season ran from January to February 2010, concluding on a cliffhanger. The BBC confirmed on April 13, 2010 that Survivors had been cancelled owing to low ratings and other factors. The series premiered in South Africa on BBC Entertainment in September 2009, in France on DTTV's NRJ 12 channel on January 12, 2010, and in the United States on BBC America on February 13, 2010. The series premiered in Australia on Channel Nine on March 21, 2010.
