The American sitcom "Soap" first aired on ABC in 1977 and continued until 1981. The show was made to be a nighttime parody of daytime soap operas. It was presented as a weekly half-hour comedy show during prime time. Serialized storytelling and melodramatic plot elements including extraterrestrial abduction, demonic possession, murder and kidnapping were featured in the show's storyline. In2007, Time magazine named it one of the "100 Best TV Shows of All-TIME," and in2010, the Tates and the Campbells came in at number 17 on TV Guide's list of "TV's Top Families." The show was created, written, and executive produced by Susan Harris, with help from Paul Junger Witt and Tony Thomas. Before each new season, a 90-minute recap of the previous season was shown. In 1994, VHS tapes of two of these retrospectives were made available. The show had 85 episodes over four seasons. The last four episodes of the series were each one hour long when they were shown on ABC. A total of 93 half-hour episodes were created for syndication from these hour-long broadcasts. There are presently four separate DVD box sets containing all of the episodes for region 1 DVD. On cable networks like Comedy Central and TV Land, the series has been rebroadcast in the past. It aired on Antenna TV till December 30th, 2012, over the air.
