Tatort is a long-running German/Austrian/Swiss crime television series that takes place in several regions of these nations. The program airs on the German, Austrian, and Swiss channels ARD, ORF 2, and SF1, respectively. On November 29, 1970, the first episode was shown. The series' opening sequence has remained unchanged for decades, which is extremely uncommon for such long-running television programs. Each of the regional television networks that make up ARD, plus ORF and SF, creates its own episodes starring its own police inspector, some of which have become cultural icons, such as the canceled Schimanski. The program airs on DasErste and ORF 2 on Sundays at 8:15 p.m., and approximately 30 episodes are produced annually. As of March2013, a total of 865 episodes have been created. Tatort is now being broadcast on the MHz Worldview channel in the United States under the title Scene of the Crime.
