Village Roadshow Pictures produced the Australian television series Paradise Beach. Between 1993 and1994, it was associated with New World Television for the Nine Network. The show revolves around characters who live and work on Queensland's Gold Coast, and it was shot mostly on location, with views of crashing waves, golden beaches, and scantily clothed young ladies and men. Paradise Beach was conceived as a challenger to Australian soaps such as Neighbours and Home and Away, as well as the first Australian soap to break through in the United States.
