Mental is a Fox Telecolombia television series starring Chris Vance and Annabella Sciorra that aired in the summer and fall of 2009 on FOX foreign channels spanning Latin America, Europe, and Asia. Deborah Joy LeVine – creator of the successful drama series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and the Lifetime series The Division, as well as executive producer of Any Day Now, Dawson's Creek, and the CBS series Early Edition – and her brother and writing/producing partner, Dan LeVine, served as executive producers on Mental. It was broadcast in 35 countries after its premiere in the United States. On June2,2009, Fox Latin America aired the first episode as a "Worldwide Premiere." For the American market, Fox aired the pilot episode on May26, 2009. 13 episodes were ordered by Fox TV Studios. On June2,2008, production began at the Fox Telecolombia production facility in Bogotá. Despite the fact that the series was shot in Bogotá, Colombia, to portray Los Angeles, no Colombian actors were cast as regular characters, and only a handful were cast for guest appearances, due to the series' pure American orientation. Jacqueline McKenzie, Derek Webster, Nicholas Gonzalez, and Marisa Ramirez have been added to the cast of Mental, according to TVWeek, "presumably as recurring characters."
