Little Women
A Japanese animated television series adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women from 1981, Wakakusa no Yon Shimai is also known as "Little Women." Animated by Toei Animation for the Kokusai Eigasha business, the series is directed by Kazuya Miyazaki. The series was created by the same animation team that produced the year before's Alcott-based TV special. For example, while Jo is blonde in both versions, she has curled hair in the TV series and she has straight hair in the TV special. These two shows, which were dubbed in English and broadcast on cable television in the United States in the 1980s, are sometimes confused because they were both produced by Nippon Animation and based on Little Women: Ai no Wakakusa Monogatari (1987). Both series also have the same voice actor, Keiko Han, who plays Beth on this show and Meg in the original series from 1987.
