L'ispettore Coliandro is a series of Italian tongue-in-cheek television movies directed by Marco Manetti and Antonio Manetti, written by crime writer Carlo Lucarelli, and starring Giampaolo Morelli in the titular character of the Inspector Coliandro. "Young audiences" are the target demographic for Coliandro, according to the actors and the show's creators. In fact, this is very likely true. Il commissario Montalbano and other Italian novels and television shows portray police officers as steadfast law-enforcement officers who frequently come to the aid of their citizens. A mix of "luck and [his younger partner's] intuition" saves the day for Inspector Coliandro, as well. He is an ignorant, boorish, and disliked coworker except for this partner, the only one who sees him as a hero worthy of the good guys in American cop films. Because of how Coliandro sees himself in relation to the rest of the world, this series has a lot of humor. Despite his name, Coliandro must constantly adjust his pronunciation because it is a play on the Italian word coglione, which means "ball," but is more commonly used to describe a "asshole."
