Lassie is an American TV series about a Rough Collie dog and her human and animal pals. Robert Maxwell and Rudd Weatherwax created the show, which aired from September12,1954, through March24, 1973. The show ran for 17 seasons on CBS before entering first-run syndication for its last two. The show switched to color in 1965. Lassie's adventures in a tiny farming village span the first ten seasons. Eleven-year-old Jeff Miller, his mother, and his grandfather are Lassie's first human companions until season four. When Lassie's agricultural adventures end in the 11th season, she finds new ones with USFS Rangers. Lassie spends her final two syndicated seasons at a children's shelter after a year without human leads. The first two seasons of Lassie earned two Emmys. Emmy-nominated actors Jan Clayton and June Lockhart. Merchandise included books, a Halloween costume, apparel, toys, and more. Lifelong sponsor Campbell's Soup gave away thousands of premiums.
