Instant Star is a Canadian television show that aired from September 2004 to June 2008. The series stars Alexz Johnson as Jude Harrison, the winner of an adolescent music competition. The show follows Harrison's career in the recording industry while emphasizing on character development. The show was created by Epitome Pictures' Linda Schuyler and Stephen Stohn. The show first aired on CTV in Canada before being picked up by Viacom-owned teen network channel The N, now TeenNick, in the United States. The show rose to second place on The N, trailing only Degrassi: The Next Generation, a Canadian show also produced by Schuyler and Stohn. After its first season, Instant Star was nominated for three Gemini Awards in the category of Best Children's or Youth Fiction Program or Series in 2005. Nominations were Best Series, Best Performance, and Best Direction. The episode You Can't Always Get What You Want earned the show the prize for Best Direction. On August28,2007, the show was nominated for three additional Gemini Awards in the category of Best Children's or Youth Program or Series. Alexz Johnson was nominated for Best Performance again, and there were two additional nominations for Best Direction - Graeme Campbell and Pat Williams.
