Aaron Spelling produced the series, which was set in the fictitious St. Gregory Hotel in San Francisco and was based on Arthur Hailey's 1965 novel of the same name. The Fairmont San Francisco, located atop the Nob Hill area, was used to film the hotel's opening scenes.
