Fear Factor is a reality game show based in the United States that features extreme sports stunts and challenges. Its original run lasted from 2001 till2006, after which it was taken off the air. It was later brought back to life in2011, only to be canceled once more on May13, 2012. In July 2012, following the show's second cancellation, a special that was split into two parts aired on television. When it was first published in the Netherlands, the title of the book was Now or Neverland. In2001, Endemol USA and NBC rebranded the show as Fear Factor in preparation for its release in the American market. The show puts contestants against each other in a variety of stunts for the chance to win the show's grand prize, which is normally in the range of US $50,000. From the first through the fifth seasons, the contestants were typically comprised of three men and three women who were all competing for themselves. Beginning with the sixth season, however, the show transitioned to a format that permanently featured four teams of two people, each of whom had a pre-existing relationship with the other teams' members. Joe Rogan, a comedian and UFC commentator, served as the show's host. Matt Kunitz and David A. Hurwitz served as executive producers, and J. Rupert Thompson was in charge of directing the episode.
