Elizabeth I
Elizabeth I is a two-part British historical drama TV miniseries that aired in 2005. It was directed by Tom Hooper and written by Nigel Williams. Helen Mirren played Elizabeth I of England. The miniseries is about the last 24 years of her almost 45-year rule. Part 1 is about the last few years of her relationship with Jeremy Irons' Earl of Leicester. Part 2 is about how she got to know the Earl of Essex, who was played by Hugh Dancy. The show was first shown in two two-hour parts on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom. Later, it was shown in the United States on HBO, in Canada on CBC and TMN, in Hong Kong on ATV, in Australia on ABC, and in New Zealand on TVNZ Television One. Emmy, Peabody, and Golden Globe Awards were later given to the show. In the same year, Helen Mirren played Queen Elizabeth II in the movie The Queen, which made her the most-nominated actress of the year.
