On April9,2009, the first episode of the Japanese animated television series Eden of the East was broadcast on Fuji TV during the noitaminA time slot. Character designs were done by Chika Umino, while Production I.G. was responsible for the animation production. The show was created, directed, and written by Kenji Kamiyama. It is the first original noitaminA series and is based on an original story that was written by Kamiyama. On September26,2009, a selection from the television series, titled Eden of the East Compilation: Air Communication, was shown in select theaters as part of a compilation film. There have also been two other films that have been released in theaters. The first film in the Eden of the East franchise, titled Eden of the East Movie I: The King of Eden, was made available in Japan on November28,2009, and the second film, titled Eden of the East the Movie II: Paradise Lost, was made available on March13, 2010. Funimation Entertainment has been granted the rights to distribute the television series as well as both of the films in North America. The first episode of the series was broadcast in North America for the first time on the FUNimation Channel on December27, 2010.
