Ted Turner, Robert Larkin III, and Barbara Pyle created the American animated environmentalist television series Captain Planet and the Planeteers, which was produced by Pyle, Nicholas Boxer, Andy Heyward, and Robby London and developed by Pyle, Boxer, Heyward, London, Thom Beers, Bob Forward, Phil Harnage, and Cassandra Schafhausen. The Planeteers were voiced by Andy Heyward, Andy Heyward, and Robby London. On TBS from September 15th, 1990 until December 5th, 1992 the show was created by Turner Program Services and DIC Entertainment and aired on that network. Hanna-Barbera and Turner Program Services created a follow-up series, The New Adventures of Captain Planet, which aired from September11,1993, to May11, 1996. Both shows are still airing in syndication to this day. The show is an example of environmental edutainment. Episodes and unseen material of Captain Planet and the Planeteers began appearing on Mother Nature Network's website in February 2009. Pyle helped develop the Planeteer Movement in September 2010 as a way for fans of the show to connect and incorporate the show's messages into their lives as real-life Planeteers.
