Bottom is a British anarchic sitcom created and starring Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson as socially awkward, sexually inexperienced Richie Richard and careless alcoholic Eddie Hitler, two social outcasts locked together in a daily grind in a squalid flat in Hammersmith, London. They spend their days plotting, fighting, and being rude and sadistic to each other, despite being perpetually skint, bored, and sexually dissatisfied. The show aired on BBC Two for three seasons from 1991 to 1995, and was followed by five stage performance tours in the United Kingdom between 1993 and 2003, as well as the feature film Guest House Paradiso. The show is known for its chaotic, nihilistic humour, as well as violent comedic slapstick. Bottom was ranked 45th in a BBC poll to identify "Britain's Best Sitcom" in 2008. The show is still broadcast on Gold and Dave in the United Kingdom, and it has been dubbed in various languages. The show is called as La pareja basura in Spain, and it airs on Canal+. The theme music was composed by The Bum Notes, a band that originally included Edmondson, and is a rendition of The Mar-Keys' "Last Night." Hooligan's Island, a BBC spin-off series starring the Bottom characters Richie and Eddie, was announced in 2012. However, prior to production, Edmondson cancelled the project, stating that he wanted to pursue other interests.
