At the Movies is a Disney-ABC Domestic Television movie review program in which two film critics discuss newly released films. Various names were used for the program. Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times and WLS-TV and Gene Siskel of the Chicago Tribune and WBBM-TV were the show's first hosts. After Siskel's death in1999, Ebert's usual collaborator became Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times. In2006, Ebert took a break from hosting to undergo treatment for thyroid cancer, and he was replaced by several guest hosts. Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune served as cohost from April to August of 2008. Ben Lyons, an E! Entertainment Television film critic and reporter, and Ben Mankiewicz, a Sirius Satellite Radio broadcaster and former co-host of The Young Turks and current Turner Classic Movies host, took over as hosts on September6, 2008. On August5,2009, it was announced that Michael Phillips will return to the show on September5,2009, alongside New York Times film critic A. O. Scott. The series was nominated for seven Primetime Emmy Awards and one for Outstanding Information Series during its run with Siskel and Ebert as hosts, with the most recent nomination in 1997. During Siskel and Ebert's tenures, the "thumbs up/thumbs down" review summaries were well-known. The show broadcast in syndication in the United States and on CTV in Canada, as well as on the cable network ReelzChannel throughout the week.
