Dan Signer, the former writer and co-executive producer of The Suite Life on Deck and the creator of the Disney XD show Mr. Young, created the show. Production on the series began in early 2011 after Disney Channel approved the project in mid-November 2010. It was during the premiere of Lemonade Mouth that the first promotional video was made available. The series is set in San Francisco and stars China Anne McClain. Anne McClain, Sierra McCormick, and Jake Short are middle school students in the "Advanced Natural Talent" (A.N.T.) program at their local high school. The second season of A.N.T. Farm aired on June1,2012, with two back-to-back episodes, following a formal renewal on November30, 2011. ANT Farm was renewed for a third season by Disney Channel on October2,2012, which premiered on May31, 2013 with a one-hour special, however it was also stated that Carlon Jeffery would not return and Aedin Mincks would join the main cast.
