Alvin and the Chipmunks is an American animated television series starring The Chipmunks. It was created by Bagdasarian Productions, Ruby-Spears Enterprises, and DIC Entertainment from 1983 until 1990. It aired on NBC from 1983 through 1990 and followed The Alvin Show (1961–62). The Chipettes, three female chipmunks, had a human nanny, Miss Beatrice Miller. In1988, the show was rebranded The Chipmunks by DiC Enterprises. In1987, during the show's fifth season, Samuel Goldwyn released The Chipmunk Adventure. The film was directed by Janice Karman and featured Chipmunks and Chipettes in a contest around the world. In its last season, The Chipmunks Go to the Movies was renamed. Each episode spoofs Hollywood films like Back to the Future or King Kong. TV specials starring the characters were also released. Rockin' Through the Decades aired in 1990. In the same year, the Chipmunks appeared in Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, a drug-prevention special.
