Jimmy McGovern developed the British television anthology series Accused. The drama series premiered on BBC One on November 15, 2010 and lasted two seasons. Each episode follows a different character as they await their court judgement and explains the tale of how they came to be charged in the first place. Christopher Eccleston, Benjamin Smith, Juliet Stevenson, Andy Serkis, Marc Warren, Naomie Harris, Sean Bean, and Anne-Marie Duff have all played the accused in each episode of the series. McGovern's earlier drama programs include the anthology series The Street and the drama series Moving On. After Granada Television cancelled The Street in 2009, McGovern founded RSJ Films to make independent drama programs, and the Accused anthology series was born. McGovern, Danny Brocklehurst, and Alice Nutter wrote and directed Accused, which was shot in Manchester. It was nominated for an International Emmy for best drama series in 2011.
