MTV premiered the American reality television series 16 and Pregnant on June 11, 2009. It tells the stories of high school-aged pregnant girls coping with the difficulties of pregnancy. Each episode covers a different adolescent girl, and normally begins when she is between 4.5 and 8 months pregnant. Typically, the event concludes when the infant is a few months old. The series is made in a documentary style, with an animation on notebook paper displaying episode highlights just before commercial breaks. Teen Mom, Teen Mom 2, and Teen Mom 3 are spin-offs of the original sitcom 16 and Pregnant. Each series explores the first years of motherhood of four girls from their respective season of 16 and Pregnant. Casting for the fifth season of the series has begun as of July 2013.
