Humankind is destroyed in a post-apocalyptic future, and the wondrous races of old legend emerge to repopulate the earth. A queen of the faeries gives birth to twin sons, wizards, in fulfillment of an ancient prophecy: one good, the other furiously wicked. They're destined to clash in a war that will wipe out the new Earth. The nasty son, Blackwolf, is a disfigured mutant who is expelled from the community. He aspires to rediscover old combat and destruction technologies in order to exact vengeance and conquer the world's free peoples. Avatar, the good son, is human and strives to live a quiet, non-aggressive life in order to absolve himself of culpability for the violence and sadness foretold. Avatar is compelled to mobilize forces against Blackwolf after his failed attempt to assassinate his brother, which leads to the ultimate clash.
