Whenever a famous Polish journalist reveals his full political talent and expertise on a television show involving questions and answers on world conferences by a panel of journalists, the powers that be are forced to deal with a conundrum of their own making. When he is not present, his adversaries take away his rights. In his personal life, the shock of being "unwanted" is mirrored by a deeper disappointment: his wife is having an affair with a jealous young rival and, after 15 years of marriage and two daughters, she is seeking a divorce from him. He is attempting to solve these problems on his own, and she provides no explanations. All of the decisions he makes are the incorrect decisions. When he discovers that his lecture has been canceled, he immediately begins to drink heavily with the students who are anxious to attend. The journalist, who was formerly suave and commanding, is now reduced to complete and utter quiet.
