Adapted from a true story. S/S Politician was the name of the real ship that sank on February 5, 1941, during WWII. It had left Liverpool two days earlier, bound for Jamaica, when it sank in bad weather outside Eriskay, The Outer Hebrides, Scotland, carrying 250,000 bottles of whisky. Before the proper authorities arrived, the locals gathered as many bottles as they could, and bottles are still found in the sand or in the sea every other year.
