Dr. Leo Marvin, a self-absorbed psychiatrist, has the misfortune of taking on a new patient, Bob Wiley, just before going on vacation. Bob accompanies Marvin to his family's country residence, an instance of neediness and a compendium of fears. Dr. Marvin attempts to persuade him to go, but everyone likes Bob.
