This summer day in 1933 in South Philly finds 12-year-old Gennaro at home with his widowed mother and ailing grandfather, who sits outside holding tight to his last quarter, which he has promised to Gennaro and with which he would like to purchase a ticket to the posh new movie theater that has just opened. Granted, Grandpa isn't ready to hand over the quarter or accept his full payment just yet. He has some unfinished business with a woman from his past, and he hires Gennaro to act as his agent in order to complete the transaction.
