Corey (Fred Savage) refuses to admit his emotionally disturbed younger brother Jimmy (Luke Edwards) to a mental institution, and the two flee together. They quickly join forces with a resourceful girl (Jenny Lewis), who notices Jimmy has a special talent: he is a "wizard" at video games and can get the highest score on everything he plays. Evading their parents and a sinister bounty hunter, the trio travels to California for a climactic showdown at the national video game championships.
