The Strange Love of Martha Ivers
Martha, a young girl, accidentally kills her nasty, dictatorial aunt. Martha fabricates information for the cops, and Walter, who witnessed the crime, corroborates the girl's account. They eventually marry for convenience; the humble Walter is genuinely in love, while Martha believes she has secured her secret by marrying the sole witness to her aunt's death.
