The Story of Qiu Ju
The Story of Qiu Ju is a Chinese comedy-drama film released in 1992. The film was directed by Zhang Yimou, and Gong Li plays the lead part, as he does in many of his films. The novella The Wan Family's Lawsuit was adapted into the screenplay. The film depicts the tale of Qiu Ju, a Chinese peasant woman who lives in a remote location. When her husband gets kicked in the crotch by the local chief, despite being pregnant, Qiu Ju travels to a small town and then a large city to deal with its bureaucracy and seek justice.
