Jim Morris could only pitch in the minor leagues. Twelve years ago, a shoulder injury ended his career. Jim is now a high school chemistry teacher and baseball coach in Texas. He is married and has kids. His team makes a deal with him: if they win the district championship, Jim will try out with a major-league team. The bet gives the team enough motivation to go from last to first, and for the first time in the school's history, they go to state. Jim is almost laughed off the tryout field when he has to live up to his end of the deal. But when he gets on the mound, he surprises the scouts (and himself) by throwing back-to-back 98 mph fastballs, which earns him a minor-league contract with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Jim still has to throw a lot of pitches before he gets to The Show, but now that his big-league dreams are back, he could go anywhere.
