Poland at the beginning of 1945. The Communist Security Service is exterminating "national traitors" in a newly liberated country. They establish a German, Silesia, and Polish work camp at Zgoda / Reconciliation, a former Nazi concentration camp. Franek, who loves Polish prisoner Anna, becomes a camp warder to save her. Erwin, his German friend, also adored this girl for a long period. Franek joins the communists in vain hope of outwitting the system.
