The More You Ignore Me
The More You Ignore Me is a friendly, 1980s rural England-set comedy drama based on Jo Brand's critically acclaimed novel of the same title. The film focuses on Gina, a young mother whose worsening mental health undermines her efforts to be a caring mother and wife. Things deteriorate when she develops a fixation with the local weatherman, resulting in her admittance to a nearby mental institution. Over the years, as Alice grows older, she struggles to communicate to her heavily medicated mother, causing mayhem until she devises a scheme to reconcile with her, which permanently splits the family and leads to a poignant finale. The More You Ignore Me is set to the music of The Smiths and addresses mental health difficulties and their influence on the family, while providing a sometimes bleak, yet humorous look at life in this eccentric household.
