Ancient China is in upheaval during the period of the three kingdoms' warfare. General Cao Cao (Jiang Wen), the real power behind the Emperor, enlists the assistance of Guan Yu, the strongest warrior in the realm, in order to unify the country (Donnie Yen). Guan Yu, on the other hand, is a close companion of Cao Cao's adversary Liu Bei (Alex Fong), and in order to encourage the peerless warrior to battle, Cao Cao kidnaps his beloved Qi Lan (Sun Li). Following his victory against Cao Cao's army, Guan Yu travels out with Qi Lan to rejoin Liu Bei. He has now been judged a threat to the Emperor's survival, and he must confront all of the forces under the Emperor's command that have been dispatched to destroy him on the way to the city of Beijing.
