In The Joke Thief, the author takes the reader on a journey that depicts the final moments of a man's life. Simon McCabe is a stand-up comedian who has been entertaining audiences for the past three decades. He has been the life of the party his entire life, but now he is worn out, miserable, and virtually finished with his career since his reputation for stealing jokes has prevented him from ever getting a lucky break. One night, his lifelong buddy and fellow comedian convinces the owner of a comedy club to allow Simon some stage time and one final opportunity to redeem himself. Simon takes us on a whirlwind journey of his life on the way down to his concert, as he replays back significant moments in an emotional series of flash backs that made him the sad, funny man that he is today.
