The Gingerbread Man
Rick Magruder, a Savannah lawyer, is at a party to celebrate his trial triumph defending a cop killer when Mallory Doss, a member of the catering staff, realizes her car has been taken. Magruder offers to give her a lift home after a few drinks, a move that develops into a one-night stand. Rick soon discovers that her nutcase father, Dixon, appears to have resumed his threats against her. Rick marshals the resources of his law company to defend Mallory, whom he hardly knows, arranges for Dixon's arrest, and subpoenas the girl's violent ex-husband, Pete, to testify against the elderly man. Dixon is committed to a mental institution. He quickly escapes, jeopardizing the lives of everyone who conspired against him.
