Madison is shackled to a life of fear after nearly drowning in a lake. Unable to articulate what occurred during her time underneath, she develops hydrophobia, an excessive dread of water. Madison seeks to shut off the world, crippled by her posttraumatic stress, but her fear grows and she is confronted with the vision of a dark figure who haunts her day and night. After a year of observing her suffer with the fear and visions, Madison's four friends attempt an unconventional intervention, unwittingly opening a floodgate to a terrible place where none of them is safe.
