The Departure
An intimate character study of the complicated figure of Ittetsu Nemoto, a former punk musician who became a Buddhist priest after a period of aimlessness and rebellion. Suicidal men and women have benefited from his intelligent and caring guidance, and he is well-known in Japan for this work. However, Nemoto is now reaching middle age, with a wife and young son of his own, when he finds that his life is in danger due to heart illness, which is exacerbated by the enormous emotional burden of caring for those who have chosen to die. When protecting others takes such a toll on him, will he be able to summon the strength to save himself?
