Dr. Josh Keyes, a geophysicist, discovers that the earth's inner core has ceased to rotate due to an unknown force. Our atmosphere is literally coming apart at the seams as the planet's magnetic field deteriorates, with disastrous repercussions. To solve the situation, Keyes and a group of the world's most brilliant scientists journey to the center of the planet. Their objective was to set off a device that would reawaken the core.
