Ann, a reclusive lovely lady with a butterfly fixation, befriends the hauntingly beautiful Alice. Alice establishes a weird mother-daughter relationship with Ann. Lured into her twisted world, Ann soon realizes she is not the only one being adored. Ann's amazement at being confronted by Alice's other female acquaintances unleashes a spiral of madness: a series of terrible and weird acts that Ann must conduct to maintain her innocent and deceitful appearances. Ann's only critic is Julie, her next door neighbor's daughter, aged nine. Julie, like a child, explores Ann's apartment, uncovering a frightening truth concealed in the forbidden butterfly room's walls. Only Ann's daughter believes what she's seen. Fearful, she realizes she holds the young girl's fate.
