In this late sequel to "The Decline of the American Empire," Remy, a college professor in Montreal who is in his 50s, learns that he has liver cancer and is going to die soon. Before he dies, he decides to make up with his friends and family. He first tries to make up with his ex-wife Louise, who asks their son Sebastian, a successful businessman who lives in London, to come back home. Sebastian does the impossible by using his connections and messing up the whole Canadian system in every way he can to help his dying father fight until the end. He also tries to get Pierre, Alain, Dominique, Diane, and Claude, his old friends, to come see their old friend before he dies.
