A lot has happened since1991. Spud Milton's long journey to becoming a man is still going at a very slow pace. It has been a long time since Spud has seen the ball drop. He is coming to terms with the fact that he might be a freak of nature. With a mother who wants to move to another country, a father who makes a lot of money selling homemade moonshine, and a grandmother called Wombat, the new year doesn't look like it has much to offer. Spud, on the other hand, is going back to a boarding school where he is no longer the youngest or the smallest person there. There is a new member of his Crazy Eight dorm group and his house has a new group of first-years (the Normal Seven). If Spud thinks that his second year will be easy, he is very wrong.
