Interviews with seamen's widows form the basis for a rambling narration that oscillates between the poles of long-distance love, phony luxury, and antiques from colonial times. The film was shot on 36-hour ferry trips between Rotterdam and Hull, and Kiel and Oslo. The film, which is itself a souvenir, establishes a connection between the ship as the largest arsenal of imagination and the nautic environment of the cinema.
