Lambert is a burned-out case who works the night shift at a gas station, rarely speaks, lives alone, and consumes alcoholic beverages.. In search of a spark plug for a stolen Moped, Bensoussan, who was reared in foster homes and is now a part-time pusher for a bar owner named Rashid, arrives at the station. They strike up a conversation and decide to go out for drinks a few days later. When the young man steals Rashid's expensive motorcycle a couple of times, it becomes clear that he is not worth keeping around for much longer. When Lambert resolves to pursue vengeance on Bensoussan, he turns to Lola, a punk who knew him. Lola provides him with information that leads Lambert to Bensoussan's whereabouts. Using astonishing tenacity, she breaks through Lambert's shell, and he begins to feel again. He tells Lola his story, and he gains a renewed sense of excitement for life.
