The dystopian world of CHILDREN OF MEN and DISTRICT 13 is brought to London's East 17 in Mo Ali's futuristic knife-crime drama. SHANK paints a bleak picture of future urban life, in which knives have replaced guns and are passionately wielded by idle youths. The Paper Chazers gang, a rare morally conscious gang that trades scavenged food for money, is caught up in the heart of the pandemonium. Junior (Kedar Williams-Stirling), a Chazers gang member, must choose whether to seek revenge or follow the group's moral code after witnessing his brother's murder. Today's societal themes, as well as the dark city streets, provide an ideal canvas for imagination and action in this beautifully paced and artistic film.
